DESCRIPTION OF SUBJECT

The department qualifies for the teaching post at professional schools and for an occupation in the school occupational fields in practise and research. The master study is offered with the subjects to commercial-technical sciences electrical engineering informatics or metal technology.

For the qualification for an activity aside the practical school area knowledge and skills in the field Metal Technology or Electrical Engineering Informatics and in a minor subject as well as in Educational Sciences /Vocational Educational Sciences are given

For the qualification for an activity as a teacher at public schools knowledge and skills in the work pedagogic school field Metal Technology or Electrical Engineering Informatics including the professional didactics and in a minor subject as well as in Educational Sciences / Vocational Educational t Sciences. The study turns to engineers who aim an activity as a schoolteacher. A first bachelor or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or Metal Technology must be reached before.

All lectures are held in German. Therefore appropriate German language skills are absolutely necessary for successful participation of the courses.

OCCUPATIONAL FIELDS AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Subsequent non-teaching occupational fields

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) is the postgraduate course of study for bachelor graduates who wish to become teachers in public schools. The M.Ed. programme takes four semesters.

For the M.Ed. vocational schools, both graduates of a bachelor's degree related to teaching professions and bachelor's graduates with a degree in engineering science meet the requirements. The field of engineering science must be appropriate. Examples of relevant subjects are listed in the admission regulations. In addition, practical experience of at least 6 months must be proven.

Teacher training (Lehramt)

After completing their Referendariat period, graduates are qualified teachers in the following school subjects:

Possibilities for additional qualifications

Graduates qualify for admission to doctoral studies.

In order to qualify as a teacher at state schools in Germany it is mandatory to complete an 18-month period of teaching practice in school, ending with the second state exam.

The Certificate Program Foundation Studies in Digital Media for Education is an optional course for students studying education related subjects.

"Dealing with Heterogeneity"

An essential experience you will have as a teacher is that every student is different. Students differ according to their gender, social and cultural background, inclinations and abilities, physical abilities and language skills. As a teacher you need the ability to deal with this diversity and to facilitate individual learning processes. This is taught in the study area "Dealing with Heterogeneity".

Second Compartments:

As a teaching subject (second subject) you choose one of the following subjects, which you study at Bachelor level. It is possible to restrict admission to individual subjects.

For some subjects, course-specific requirements for application or registration are required, e.g. a self-test. Some subjects require proof of foreign language skills for enrolment, which are usually demonstrated by language certificates or tests. Proof of foreign language skills can also be provided by means of the Abitur certificate up to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

In this programme area, subject-related studies in the field of teacher training are supplemented with courses dealing with teaching practice. This programme area comprises 13 - 23 % of studies in the field of teacher training, depending on the type of school envisaged. It encompasses the following topics: studies in education, subject didactics, internships and key qualifications.

APPLICATION AND ENROLMENT

Recommended abilities/ target groups/ requirements placed on students

A first professional university degree with at least 180 credit points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The degree must lead to a Master of Education degree, which provides the educational requirements for a teaching profession at vocational schools (upper secondary level II, vocational subjects). A degree can be recognized as long as there are no significant differences in terms of §56 BremHG.

The prerequisite is a Bachelor's degree in one of the following courses of study or in a course of study which does not show any significant differences in content, scope and requirements to those (see admission and admission regulations).

a1) Vocational training (in a relevant subject area such as electrical engineering, information technology, metal engineering or automotive engineering);

a2) Industrial and technical sciences (in a relevant discipline such as electrical engineering, information technology, metalworking technology or automotive engineering);

a3) Engineering sciences: Relevant to the field of electrical engineering are e.g. electrical engineering, energy technology, automation technology, mechatronics; relevant to the field of information technology are e.g. information technology, communication technology, computer science; relevant to the field of metal technology are e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, production or manufacturing technology, mechatronics; relevant to the field of automotive engineering are e.g. automotive engineering, agricultural machinery technology.

b) Knowledge of German which meets the requirements generally applicable to the University of Bremen with regard to German language skills in accordance with the "Ordnung über den Nachweis deutscherSprachkenntnisse an der Universität Bremen" (Regulations on Proof of German Language Skills at the University of Bremen) of 25 January 2012 in the currently valid version.

c) Educational science portions amounting to at least 20 credit points or achievements which do not show any significant differences in content, scope and requirements from those (can also be acquired during the Master's programme if necessary).

e) Relevant practical work in the field of at least 6 months. The requirements for these activities can be found in the current version of the "Guideline for the Recognition of Practical Experience in accordance with the KMK Framework Agreement on Training and Examination for Secondary Level II Teachers (Vocational Subjects) or for Vocational Schools (Teacher Training Type 5)".

Fortgeschrittene Studierende, die ihr Bachelorstudium nicht an der Universität Bremen abgeschlossen haben, können nur zum Wintersemester zum 3. Fachsemester zugelassen werden. Sie müssen zudem Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen für das erste und zweite Fachsemester nachweisen.

Fortgeschrittene Studierende, die ihr Bachelorstudium an der Universität Bremen abgeschlossen haben, können beim Nachweis von mindestens 10 CP aus dem M.Ed.-Studium, der Zugangsvoraussetzungen sowie der nachgewiesenen Zulassung zum Praxissemester als Fortgeschrittene zum Sommersemester aufgenommen werden.
